Sexy Nog Recipe (Vegan Egg Nog)

There’s nothing sexy about “hypoallergenic-nog” now is there? Precisely the thinking behind naming my non-egg-non-dairy-non-refined-sugar-nog “SEXY NOG”. Sure I could have called it Vegan-Nog but then I may inadvertently persuade all the non-vegans into thinking there is no reason they even need to read this post because how could it possibly be as good as the real thing. Ooooh but it is as good as the real thing minus the belly ache and gassy tummy – talk about zapping the sexy right out of the holidays, sheesh!

Now even if you don’t have those symptoms, dairy increases inflammation in the body, particularly the sterilized pasteurized white stuff we drink by the truckloads falsely believing it is going drive calcium right where we need it and build stronger bones (sorry, not gonna happen – read more). An increase in inflammation ups our risk for heart disease, causes weight gain and makes us look puffy. Interestingly, the most common beautifying side effect of taking a break from dairy is the face-puffiness subsides. Even if you don’t think your face is puffy, eliminate dairy for two weeks and watch your cheekbones come out from hiding and your eyelids deflate, yes, seriously!

Okay here’s my sexy nog recipe ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana (even better if it’s been frozen)
  • 1 can (400mL) full-fat organic coconut milk (make sure it’s been chilled)
  • 1-1/2 cups almond, hemp or oat milk (don’t use brown rice milk, texture is too thin)
  • 1/2 cup sucanat sugar (health food store)
  • 1 tsp organic ground cinnamon (get the non-irradiated stuff from health food store. It’s the most heavenly scent EVER!)
  • 1/4 tsp organic ground nutmeg
  • 1/8th tsp organic ground cloves
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon stick to make it look pretty, of course!

NOTE: If you are unsure where you get these ingredients, take my list with you to Whole Foods or any health food store and you will find all of them.

Method:

Combine the frozen banana, milk, sugar, herbs and vanilla extract into your blender. Blend on high for 30 seconds. Makes 4-6 cups. Sprinkle the top with ground cinnamon (very blood sugar balancing) and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Not only is this drink uber sexy, but it’s beautifying too! Herbs have some of the HIGHEST levels of antioxidants of any other food on planet earth. And if you buy organic, you are getting a decent dose of those cancer and premature age fighting antioxidants. In fact, the active ingredient that makes herbs smell so amazingly delish is the same medicinal chemical that acts as an antioxidant. Wanna do a little science experiment with your nose? Compare the smell of organic non-irradiated cinnamon with that of regular commercial cinnamon. I say no more ;)

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

You have single-handedly just made my day. That sugar+colouring+”milk” junk in the carton wasn’t gonna fly but it was always a childhood fave – thanks for the healthy alternative!

Just made this eggnog and it’s so delicious!! I’m going to make it for my family over the holidays for sure :) I was so hesitant looking at the ready-made eggnog, even in Whole Foods. One was made with soy milk and the other was organic milk…yours is a much better option! thanks Joy and an early Merry Christmas!
