It’s still pretty early, about 7:30am but as I sit here typing and drinking, I feel like a green goddess. My taste buds are feeling a zippy zing because I just made the most delicious green juice and I can feel my joyous cells getting smiley.
Doing good things for your body is an absolutely fabulous way to start the day! Infusing your body with energizing and cancer-preventing vitamins like A, C, K and minerals such as magnesium, selenium, calcium, potassium — rather than injecting my body with an artificial jolt of caffeine. Admittedly, I’ve been known to do the latter in the past only to suffer the mid-afternoon dull and lull. However, with this green goodness, I will be blood sugar balanced and full of nutrients.
The best time to drink a fresh juice is first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (after my lemon and water of course). Why? Well, quite simply you will have maximum absorption of those nutrients because they don’t have to make there way around a Starbucks croissant or if you’ve been reading my blog, perhaps cinnamon apple quinoa? Regardless of what you feast on for breakie, the juice should be first. Here’s my recipe that I’m positively delighted to share with you.
Green Goodness Juice
- 2 carrots, ends chopped off
- 1 whole anjou pear, sliced away from the core (some people juice the whole thing, but I prefer to keep the toxins from the seeds outta my joyous body)
- 5 stalks celery
- 5 kale leaves, hard stem at bottom removed
- Half thumb size of fresh ginger for some zippy zing!
I used all *certified* organic ingredients, most of which I bought in the St. Lawrence Market from Golden Orchard and I washed everything before juicing. I always like to add one piece of fruit to my juice because it takes the bitterness away. The sky is the limit when it comes to juicing, there are no rules really. I hope this post inspires you to make your own green juice so you can feel like a goddess or a king! Just have fun with it!

Yum!! That sounds so delish!
I pulled my Breville juicer out of retirement a few months ago but still haven’t used it so this looks like just the recipe to get me started!
It was soooo good. Me too, I haven’t used my juicer in a while either (until this morning)… been buying my juice from juice bars in the city. I’ve heard the Breville is the best brand. I have a WaringPro, it’s pretty good, but hard to juice leafy greens and wheatgrass.
ginger is where its at! and with pear, i gotta try this tomorrow!
totally, love ginger!!
That sounds delicious! I had a green smoothie this morning and it was so refreshing!
I don’t own a juicer (yet).
How would the green powder drinks you buy from the health food store compare?
Hi Faith, this is the best substitute to making it yourself: http://www.livinggreens.ca They make the best, most pure greens on the market. I have had MANY clients go on this product and the results have been great: better digestion, stronger nails, healthier nails. The power of minerals!!
I am having a hard time finding the specific product you are referring to on that web site. Is it “SunWarrior Ormus Super Greens Super Food” from Raw & Order?
Here is the exact link for you: http://www.livingfuel.ca/en/products/super_greens/index.html
Ouch, that stuff looks great but for that price I think a good juicer would be a much better investment!
Great recipe Joy! I’ll have to ask my mom if I can borrow/have the juicer she never uses
